In a significant step towards sustainable development and community empowerment, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources XI (BFAR) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development XI (DSWD) recently convened in a meeting to kickstart the implementation of “Project Lawa at Binhi” in Davao Region.

The meeting was convened with the presence of several key individuals. BFAR XI was represented by Ms. Sharon M. Baidiango, OIC, Fisheries Production and Support Services Division, Ms. Christie Mae B. Ranque, OIC Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit and support staff. On the other hand, DSWD XI was represented by Ms. Karen Ganonan, Project Focal together with Ms. Rachel M. Guerrero, Section Head of the Regional Resource Operation Section in the Disaster Response Management Division, along with their accompanying staff members.

It served as a platform for key stakeholders from both agencies to align strategies and action plans for the successful implementation of the aforementioned project. BFAR, with its expertise in fisheries management, brings valuable technical assistance and resources to the table, while DSWD’s experience in social welfare programs ensures that the project’s benefits are maximized for the local communities.

BFAR and DSWD aspire to create sustainable ecosystems that not only support biodiversity but also provide additional sources of income for local residents. Through Project Lawa at Binhi, communities will be empowered to engage in sustainable agriculture and aquaculture practices while mitigating the adverse effects of climate change.
