To dramatize and popularize fisherfolk empowerment and fisherfolk participation as government partners, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Regional Office XI, through the RFTFCD – Fisherfolk Coordination Unit, facilitated the annual selection of the National and Regional Fisherfolk Director on March 22, 2024.

Mr. Riel Abellana, the Chairperson of CFARMC in the Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte, was selected as the Regional Fisherfolk Director for the calendar year 2024. While Mr. Joel Canda, Chairperson of MFARMC in Mabini, Davao de Oro, emerged as his alternate.

Moreover, Mr. Argie Lumibao, former Regional Fisherfolk Director 2012, was selected as the National Fisherfolk Director Nominee, along with Mr. Randy Briones as the alternate.

The activity was conducted as an initial step in the preparation for the upcoming celebration of Farmers and Fisherfolk Month in the month of May of each year, as stipulated in the Department of Agriculture Special Order No. 088 and the Fisheries Office Orders No. 080 and 080-1.

This will also serve as an immersion program where fisherfolk leaders are given the opportunity to be informed and educated about the dynamics of government office operations.

CONGRATULATIONS!🥳
