BFAR XI through the Post-Harvest and Marketing Section initiated the conduct of reorientation to the enumerators who regularly monitored the prices of fish in the major wet markets regionwide on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the BFAR Regional Office, Davao City.

The said activity aims to strengthen market transparency through regular collection and consolidation of prevailing prices of commercially important fishery commodities to analyze the trend in the prices of fish present in the markets of the Davao Region.

This effort is part of BFAR’s National Fisheries Price Monitoring Program as mandated by RA 7581, also known as the Price Act of 1992. The said legislation protects consumers by stabilizing the prices of necessities and prime commodities and prescribing measures against undue price increases during emergencies and similar occasions.

Thus, the Bureau designates price monitoring enumerators through its City/Provincial Fishery Offices who are tasked to monitor the weekly prices of fish in 6 major markets throughout the entire region as well as its volume to determine the available supply.

The generated data is significant in the price trend analyses which serve as the basis for policy recommendations relevant to price stabilization of basic agri-fishery commodities.

To be updated on the weekly price report, the price monitoring is regularly posted on the website and social media accounts of BFAR XI.
