The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) XI has started the distribution of over PHP400,000 worth of food packs to 1,000 families heavily affected by floods caused by shear line and trough of Low-Pressure Area (LPA) affecting Davao Region from January to early February.

The relief assistance is part of BFAR XI’s ongoing recovery efforts in support to the food needs of fisherfolk families facing the aftermath of these severe weather conditions.

The breakdown of relief goods includes 412 food packs for Davao del Norte, 396 food packs for Davao de Oro, and 192 food packs for Davao Oriental.

Each food pack contains essential supplies, including five (5) kgs of rice, mung beans, vermicelli noodles, and fishery products such as sardines, and dried fish.

BFAR XI OIC Regional Director Relly B. Garcia said that the distribution and identification of recipients were in coordination with Provincial Fisheries Offices, City/Municipal and Provincial Local Government Units.

Director Garcia expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts of the BFAR Central Office and other Regional Offices, particularly BFAR V for their generous donations of sardines.

“As the region continues to recover from the impact of these weather conditions, BFAR XI through concerted efforts with various agencies, LGUs, and stakeholders will take all necessary measures to help these communities rebuild and regain stability,” Director Garcia said.
