As March unfolds, BFAR XI joins the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) and other government agencies in celebrating National Women’s Month (NWM), with this year’s theme, “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas: Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patutunayan 2024,” align with the broader theme “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society.”

The annual observance aims to give due recognition to the contributions of Filipino women in our society. Additionally, it serves as a call to action for individuals, organizations, and governments to advocate for policies, programs, and initiatives that promote inclusivity, diversity, and gender equality.

In an interview, Sharon Baidiango, BFAR XI’s Regional Gender and Development (GAD) Focal, emphasized the celebration’s significance in championing gender equality and amplifying women’s voices.

“As the Office spearheads GAD initiatives, let us recommit ourselves to building a future where women’s rights are fully realized and respected,” Baidiango said.

As a show of support, BFAR XI proudly hoisted the NWM advocacy banner at its Regional and City/Provincial Fisheries Offices in Davao Region and started the observance of #PurpleFridays2024, or wearing of purple shirt on all Fridays of March, to signify support for women’s empowerment and gender equality.

In light of the celebration, the Gender and Development Focal Point System (GADFPS) has organized a series of events throughout March to be participated in by BFAR XI personnel.

On March 4, BFAR XI will join the Department of Agriculture DA-wide NWM Opening Program at Bago Oshiro, Davao City, acknowledging women’s extraordinary roles in the agriculture and fisheries sector.

On March 5, a “Pagpupugay kay Juana”, event will be organized, dedicated to providing free massage services to personnel and hosting an appreciation program for BFAR XI women employees for their invaluable contributions.

Other activities for NWM include the International Women’s Day Parade, GAD Culmination Program, and coastal clean-up activities scheduled for March 8, 26, and 27, respectively.
