The one-day workshop was spearheaded by BFAR XI SAAD RPMSO with the Resource Person from BFAR XI GAD Focal Point System. The Bureauโ€™s goal is to equip SAAD personnel the necessary tools and knowledge to integrate gender perspectives, fostering a deeper understanding of gender dynamics and pursue gender-responsive approaches in project planning and implementation that will create an inclusive and equitable environment.

“This is to promote awareness and integrate gender sensitivity in SAAD activities,” said Relly B. Garcia, BFAR-XI OIC Regional Director.

Participants were actively engaged in interactive sessions such as role-playing, memory-stimulating games, perceptive discussions, and output presentations that are strategically designed to fathom a deep exploration and expression of gender viewpoints. The role-playing sessions inspired participants to step into different gender roles, allowing them to empathize and understand gender concepts. Games not only added an element of fun but also served as educational tools, challenging participants to think critically about gender-related issues. The activity also served as a platform for open forum where participants could share their experiences, exchange ideas, and engage in thoughtful conversations on gender-related matters. Output presentations represented a collective diverse perspectives and newfound awareness the emerged during the dynamic session.

Expressing the importance to re-echo and integrate gender concepts in conducting SAAD activities, Elisa E. Pil, OIC Chief-FPSSD/SAAD Assistant Focal remarked โ€œIt is important to integrate these concepts because it is considered as a critical factor that we must consider to our SAAD beneficiaries especially in the rural areas. We may donโ€™t know if some of our beneficiaries are victims of violence. That is why we need to be cautious in our approach to our beneficiaries.โ€

The trainers training on gender and development was a significant step in ensuring that the DA-BFAR SAAD Program Phase 2 remains at the forefront of agricultural development in fisheries sector and actively working towards inclusive and equitable future.
