Earlier today, BFAR XI facilitated an orientation on the implementation of FAO No. 198-1, also known as the “Amended Rules and Regulations on Registration and Licensing of Commercial Fishing Vessels, Fishing Gears and Fishworkers”.

Severino L. Escobar Jr., Chief of the BFAR Central Office-Licensing Section, said that the orientation aims to increase the awareness of stakeholders regarding the new fishery regulations and amendments.

“Pagkakataon nyo na rin po ito para mabigyan linaw lahat ng mga issues and concerns about commercial fishing vessel licensing,” He added.

Officer-in-Charge Enrica Patricia Araullo, conveying a message on behalf of BFAR XI OIC Regional Director Relly Garcia, emphasized the initiative’s core commitment to deterring Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing. This commitment contributes to the protection of fisheries resources and upholds responsible and sustainable practices within the fishing industry.

The event gathered the participation of licensing personnel from regions 10, 11, and 13, alongside various stakeholders. Discussions covered key areas, including documentary requirements for Commercial Fishing Vessel Applications, Fees, reportorial requirements, catch documentation, and grounds for cancellation.
