The recent 2-day Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair in Monkayo, Davao de Oro boosted local fisherfolk and community livelihoods. The event featured BFAR XI’s participation, offering a wide range of services including “Kadiwa ni Pangulo”, Tilapia Dispersal, and Training, among others.

During the fair, participating fisherfolk hit a total sales of Php124,838.40 through Kadiwa ni Pangulo, where they showcased their locally sourced fish produce. This substantial figure comprised 672.74 kilograms of white shrimps and an array of fresh fish selections, such as tuna, tilapia, and value-added seafood products.

One consumer remarked, “Panalagsa lang barato ang isda ug pasayan, unya presko pa gyud ning baligya,” (Fish and shrimps are seldom this affordable, and the products are still very fresh.)

The fishery products were sourced from Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises in Brgy. Tagnanan Mabini in Davao de Oro, Brgy. Tibanban Governor Generoso, and Lupon in Davao Oriental, and Davao City.

Meanwhile, BFAR XI Director Raul Millana and Provincial Fishery Officer for Davao de Oro Rocky Sumagaysay led the distribution of 47,500 pcs tilapia fingerlings to 150 individuals. Beneficiaries participated in an Orientation on Tilapia Grow-out Culture and Management in Freshwater Pond, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to ensure successful tilapia farming.

The Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair gathers more than 40 national agencies and local government offices to serve as a one-stop shop for accessing various government programs and services, making government assistance more accessible and efficient to the public.

Davao de Oro was chosen as one of the provinces for the simultaneous nationwide launched by the House of Representatives, through the Office of Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, on September 23-24, 2023.
