𝗦𝗔𝗡 𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗥𝗢, 𝗗𝗔𝗩𝗔𝗢 𝗗𝗘𝗟 𝗡𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗘, 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟬, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 – Members of the newly organized San Isidro Fisherfolk Association (SISFA) of San Isidro, Davao del Norte gained technical insights on Tilapia culture and management in a three-day training conducted on August 7-9, 2023.

Spearheaded by the technical personnel from BFAR XI-Provincial Fishery Office (PFO) and Provincial Agriculture Office (PAGRO) together with the Local Government Unit (LGU)-Municipal Agriculture Office, the training aimed to equip members of SISFA with the latest advancements in pond-based farming methods, water quality maintenance, disease prevention, and efficient feeding practices within freshwater fishponds.

This initiative fosters sustainable aquaculture practices that emphasize the commitment of DA-BFAR SAAD Program Phase 2 key implementers to enhance livelihood projects and promote responsible farming in the region.

SISFA extends its heartfelt gratitude to all key implementers for their dedication and support in organizing the impactful training program. The association is looking forward to applying the knowledge gained to enhance their Tilapia farming techniques, uplift their economic livelihood and contribute to the overall prosperity of San Isidro, Davao del Norte.

Present during the activity were Municipal Mayor Silvano Gaje, Aquaculturist II Jomar H. Hadjerol of PAGRO Davao del Norte, Fishing Regulations Officer I Mervin F. Cabrera of PFO Davao del Norte, Municipal Agriculturist Lauriano M. Pintor Jr., Fishery Coordinator Rito Sumagang, SAAD Area Coordinator Marklin D. Delos Santos, Carmelita Apaz – representative from the office of the governor and Liaison Officer Jerlie Alpuerto from the office of the Municipal Mayor. Their knowledge and expertise serve as guidance that played a vital role in the learning experience of each participant. Their insightful direction contributed not only to the enrichment of their educational journey but also left an indelible mark on each individual.

The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-BFAR SAAD) Program Phase 2 aims to contribute to poverty reduction and improve the living conditions of vulnerable fisherfolk and their communities by providing sustainable livelihood opportunities and support for poor fishing sectors. These interventions intend to complement the DA banner programs and assist beneficiaries in establishing community-based Bfar Region XIrBfar-Pfo Davao del Norteves to enhance food security and promote economic growth in targeted areas across the Philippines.
