𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐎𝐃, 𝐃𝐀𝐕𝐀𝐎 𝐃𝐄𝐋 𝐍𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐄, 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟒, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑| The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) XI through the Provincial Fishery Office (PFO) of Davao del Norte in collaboration with the Local Government Unit (LGU) and Provincial Agriculture Office (PAGRO), successfully concluded a 3-day training session on tilapia culture and management in freshwater fishpond for the Talaingod SAAD Fisherfolk Association (TSFA). The training was held from August 2-4, 2023 at Purok 3-Tagulayan, Brgy. Palma Gil, Talaingod, Davao del Norte.

TSFA – beneficiary of the DA-BFAR Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program Phase 2 received comprehensive training, aimed to equip the members with valuable knowledge and skills on tilapia culture and management.

Participants were oriented beforehand to the BFAR’s regular programs and services, which include the opportunities provided by said program.

Attendees actively participated throughout the training particularly in interactive sessions, practical demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, allowing them to grasp the essential techniques in tilapia culture and management. The TSFA members expressed their enthusiasm and gratitude for the opportunity to enhance their livelihoods and contribute to the sustainable development of the region’s aquaculture industry.

Among the valuable guests during the training were Aquaculturist 2 Jomar H. Hadjerol of PAGRO Davao del Norte, Fishery Coordinator Jocelyn Gunay of LGU Talaingod, OIC Provincial Fisheries Officer Aylwin N. Ventura, Agriculture Technician – PAGRO Robert Marquez, and SAAD Area Coordinator Marklin D. Delos Santos. Their expertise and guidance were instrumental in enriching the learning experience for all participants.

The successful completion of the training session marks a significant highlight in the journey toward achieving a sustainable fishing sector in Talaingod. The key implementers are dedicated to continuing their efforts in capacitating fishing communities and developing a culture of responsible and innovative aquaculture practices. Such collaborative efforts play a vital role in promoting economic growth and food security.

These interventions intend to complement the DA banner programs and assist beneficiaries in establishing community-based fishery enterprises. The BFAR-SAAD strives to enhance food security and promote economic growth in targeted areas across the Philippines.
