The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources XI (BFAR XI), in collaboration with the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos XI (NCMF XI) and Tagum City Muslim Affairs Office, conducted an Orientation on Tilapia Culture and Halal Principles of Food Safety on July 11, 2023 at the City Hall of Tagum City.

The activity aimed to capacitate the participants, our Muslim brothers and sisters, with the knowledge on tilapia culture and management while complying with the halal principles and minimum requirements of Good Aquaculture Practices.

The Regional Director of the NCMF XI, Arch. Sherilla Porza-Sawa, kicked off the activity with her welcome remarks tackling the main purpose of the activity. She thanked the bureau and other attending agencies, as well as the participants for gathering with a single purpose to promote a halal fisheries industry.

The activity focused on three main topics such as the Halal Principles, Tilapia Culture and Management and Minimum Requirements of Good Aquaculture Practices which are presented by three lecturers namely Mr. Samaon Buat, JD, Chief Cultural Affairs Division, NCMF XI; Mr. Marklin D. Delos Santos, Technical Staff, PFO Davao del Norte; and Ms. Sajeda M. Canobas, Technical Staff, BFAR XI, respectively.

The said activity helped in the realization of Halal Principles, not only from a religion perspective but also from a healthy and safe food perspective.
