Stalls selling illegally caught fishes nabbed

DAVAO CITY–141 kilos of illegally caught fishes were confiscated in three stalls at the Bangkerohan public market earlier.
The joint-market denial operation of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources XI, together with the Office of the City Veterinarian and the Philippine National Police- San Pedro Police Station, led to the apprehension of three stall owners selling illegally caught fishes using explosives or dynamite.
During the operation, the team was able to identify suspicious looking fishes being displayed on the stalls. Based on the assessment and scientific examination conducted by the Fish Examiners, it was concluded that the fishes were caught using explosives or dynamites.
The apprehended stall owners will be charged with both administrative and criminal charges for violating Section 126 of R.A. No. 8550 as amended by R.A. No. 10654 for "Possessing, Dealing, or Disposing Illegally Caught or Taken Fish."
The confiscated fishes were turned over to the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO), Quick Response Team for Children’s Concern, in San Pedro St. (IEC)
