SAN ISIDRO CLAIMS TOP SPOT IN THE 2021 REGIONAL MMK

Municipality of San Isidro in Davao Oriental was awarded as the regional winner of the 2021 Malinis at Masaganang Karagatan (MMK).
The awarding was held at Huya'anan Hotel, San Isidro, Davao Oriental, last February 18, 2022.
MMK is BFAR’s way to recognize the communities that initiates outstanding coastal resources management leading to sustainable fisheries in the country.
It also gears to promote fisheries protection and conservation centers on the significance of sustainably managing the fisheries and aquatic resources. Thus, promotes stakeholder's engagement in the cause of resource protection and conservation.
Municipal Mayor Justina Yu received the P2-million cheque and plaque of recognition during the awarding ceremony. San Isidro will represent Region XI in the National Level of the Search.They are planning to use the prize to enhance their mangrove nursery.
Meanwhile, the City of Mati, also in Davao Oriental, won second place and received P1 million cheque plus plaque of recognition, and the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) in Davao del Norte, won third place with P500,000 cheque and plaque of recognition.
Municipality of Pantukan and Davao City also received a plaque of recognition for winning 4th and 5th place, respectively.
Other officials who attended the event were BFAR Regional Director Raul C. Millana, and representatives of the LGUs concerned.
Determination, leadership and the will to adopt appropriate practices paved the way to a well-managed coastal resource.
