BFAR stocks 10,000 Garungan in Panabo

PANABO CITY⏤BFAR XI stocked 10,000 Garungan or milkfish fingerlings in Panabo Mariculture Park in Cagangohan, Panabo City, last July 21, 2020. This program was launched to intensify the Bangus sufficiency program and to achieve food sufficiency in southern Mindanao.

In line with the Masaganang ANI at Mataas na KITA Program of DA Secretary, Dr. William D. Dar, the stocking of Garungan was a result of the strong Public-Private Partnership between BFAR XI and the Davao Gulf Fishermen Cooperative (DGFC) represented by BFAR XI OIC, Regional Director Alfeo G. Piloton and DGFC Chairperson Domingo Ang.

Upon the site visit of BFAR technical experts in the said mariculture park, they recommended the breeding of such commodity, along with the groupers and lobsters, because of its promising economic contribution to the local stakeholders.

Along with Dir. Piloton and Mr. Ang during the stocking were Dr. Jericardo S. Mondragon of BFAR National Mariculture Center, Ms. Ma. Loida M. Avorque of PFO Davao del Norte, and Ms. Vilma M. Montojo of TOS Tagabuli.
