BFAR XI initiates Malalag Bay management

Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental–A coordinated meeting with LGU Sta. Maria for the management plan of Malalag Bay was conducted last November 19 to 20, 2020 at Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental.
participated by the different agencies concerned and the stakeholders from small scale to large scale fish cage operators. BFAR XI, Regional Director Raul C. Millana, in his opening message highlighted the important points to be included in the drafting of the management plan. The first topic in the meeting was presented by Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) XI through a pre-recorded video with topics on environmental policies and environmental compliance certificate. It was then followed by the discussion on basic sanitation in aquaculture practices by the Municipal Health Office of Sta. Maria.
Meanwhile, Dr. Elaine Vera Belvis, head of BFAR XI, Regional Fisheries Laboratory discussed about minimum good aquaculture practices.
In the afternoon, Ms. Sajeda Canobas from BFAR XI Laboratory presented the water sampling results in Malalag Bay. Then, the creation of the interim technical working group ensued via election.
The last day was used to draft the resolution creating the technical working committee for the sustainability of the Malalag Bay. An action plan was also agreed for the interim technical working group to be guided as to the work that they have to accomplish.
