SAN ISIDRO, DAVAO ORIENTAL EMERGES REGIONAL WINNER IN MMK 2021

January 11, 2022

READ:  The Municipality of San Isidro emerged Regional Winner of the just-concluded MMK 2021, who will receive TWO MILLION PESOS (Php2,000,000.00) worth of fisheries projects. Taking a notch higher, the Municipality of San Isidro is this year's contender for MMK National level.

The municipality shone due to its exemplary initiatives and accomplishments in its efforts against illegal fishing, observance of off-fishing season, establishing and protecting Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), and in keeping the coastal waters clean from solid waste and industrial effluence.

The municipality was also successful in mangrove protection and rehabilitation program. It initiated programs with Local Government Unit funds for fisheries development such as DILI NAKO SA PLASTIK PROGRAM (I don't want plastic program) and KATUNGGAN KO, AMOMAHON KO PROGRAM (My mangrove, I care program).

San Isidro is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Davao Oriental. The Municipality is hard up to finance its various services and programs. It is inspiring that despite fiscal challenges, San Isidro excelled. It was able to manage its meager financial resources to protect its municipality from ridge to reef.

Meanwhile, also within the turf of environmental protectors, the City of Mati, in Davao Oriental, won second place and will receive P1 million and plaque of recognition. The Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) in Davao del Norte, won third place with P500,000 and plaque of recognition.

The Municipality of Pantukan in Davao de Oro garnered fourth place while Davao City and Panabo City got the fifth and sixth spot respectively.

The entrees, created a major impact to advance the adoption of practices that combats the factors that have deleterious, and sometimes irreversible, negative impacts on fisheries, and thereby endanger sustainable fisheries resource utilization. May they remain resolute to continue to embody the ingenuity, passion and concern for the Philippine natural resources and in sustainable coastal marine resource management.
