The Regional Orientation on the Development of the Salt Industry Project (DSIP) was successfully conducted by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources XI through its Post-Harvest and Marketing Section on May 28, 2025, at Apo View Hotel, Davao City.
The event gathered officers-in-charge, technical staff, and beneficiaries from Provincial and City Fisheries Offices, Local Government Units, BFAR XI personnel, and resource speakers from the BFAR Central Office and Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University. The event served as a platform to enhance awareness and collaboration for the success of DSIP in the Davao Region.
A key presentation was delivered by Mr. Filcollin V. Omandac, Food Technologist II of the National Salt Project Management Office, who discussed the provisions of Republic Act 11985, also known as the Philippine Salt Industry Development Act. Dr. Hannibal M. Chavez, Head of the National Salt Management Office, also presented the Philippine Salt Industry Development Project (PSIDP) Implementation Framework, emphasizing the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders to ensure a collaborative and harmonized approach.
Participants also attended a technical session by Dr. Andie John D. Tadeo, who introduced innovative salt production methods, including solar drying using high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sheets and the cooking or boiling technique.
The orientation concluded with an open forum where participants shared local insights, raised relevant questions, and expressed their commitment to supporting the DSIP initiatives. Attendees conveyed strong interest in adopting improved salt production practices and shared a vision for a resilient and sustainable salt industry in the Davao Region.
