๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐, ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐, ๐๐๐๐ โ The Kiblawan Tilapia Raisers Association (KTRA) has achieved a significant milestone by grossing a total of Php 1,912,720.00 from freshwater tilapia production under the (DA-BFAR SAAD) Program Phase 2. The members are thrilled that for just over a year, their sustained hard work and dedication to the program have resulted in continued extensive rewards.
The SAAD Program Phase 2 was implemented last year with the aim of contributing to poverty reduction and improving the living conditions of vulnerable fisherfolk and their communities by providing sustainable livelihood interventions, including fingerlings, feeds, fertilizers, other farm inputs, and post-harvest materials.
In their first cropping season last year, the association harvested 5,422 kilograms of tilapia, earning Php 813,300.00. While in their most recent harvest in August, they successfully yielded 7,853 kilograms with the value of Php 1,099,420.00. In total, KTRA has harvested 13,275 kilograms of tilapia, generating a gross income of Php 1,912,720.00 over the two cropping seasons.
Ms. Gracelda S. Barrida, Officer -In-Charge of Provincial Fishery Office of Davao del Sur stated that โthe association is improving on tilapia grow out production from previous cropping. Through provision of training and their experience, the harvested tilapia increased, thus and the office is glad for the big contribution of the KTRA on Aquaculture Production in our regionโ.
The harvested tilapia was sold directly and online to neighbors, nearby barangays, and local markets across the province helping the association maximize their reach and profitability.
With the income generated from tilapia production, KTRA, composed of 37 membersโ34 men and 3 womenโcommitted to sustain the program by reinvesting their income for the next cropping period. Having completed the necessary preparations for their freshwater fishponds, they are now gearing up for the upcoming season.
