The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region XI (BFAR XI) demonstrated its commitment to sustainable fisheries development at the 37th Regional Symposium on Research Development and Extension Highlights (RSRDEH) and Farmers and Fisherfolks Forum, held August 13-14, 2024, at the Davao del Norte State College, Panabo City.

Hosted by the Southern Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic and Resources Research and Development Consortium (SMAARRDEC), the event themed “Navigating Sustainable Future: Empowering Research, Development, and Innovation for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources,” brought together researchers, developers, and extension workers from across the region to create a platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing.

BFAR XI’s presence was marked by several key contributions. Ms. Christie Mae B. Ranque-Balucos, OIC – Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Unit, secured third place in the Best Paper Awards for her policy pitch titled “A Promise Fulfilled or Forgotten? The Case of the SAAD Program in Davao de Oro, Philippines”. This paper highlighted the impact and future potential of the DA-BFAR XI’s Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Phase I project within the fisheries sector.

Ms. Rogelyn T. Apit, Aquaculturist I, presented valuable insights on Tilapia Grow-out Culture and Management for farmers and fisherfolk. BFAR XI also showcased its latest programs, developments, and services through booth exhibits alongside other consortium members.

BFAR XI’s active involvement underscores its commitment to sustainable fisheries practices and empowering communities, aligning with the administration’s broader goals for inclusive growth and competitiveness in the Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources (AANR) sector.
